Gettysburg in Focus features six intensive days studying the Battle of Gettysburg, the high water mark of the Civil War. Students will be led by Mr. David Ward, a Civil war scholar and past Hotchkiss faculty member. Students will spend six days in the field studying the battlefield and important spots like Little Round Top, Devil's Den, The Angle, Peach Orchard, etc., as well as a one day trip to study the Antietam Battlefield in Maryland. In the evenings, students will hear from a variety of scholars, many of whom are with the Civil War Institute.

Students will reside in air conditioned dorms on the Gettysburg College campus and take their meals at the college's dining hall.

David War founded the Connecticut Civil War Round Table in 1989. He owned and operated Civil War Tours from 2000 to 2015 and has published several works including The 96th Pennsylvania Volunteers in the Civil War. Ward served as a historical consultant for the movie Lincoln directed by Steven Spielberg.
